Greener Living

Since Earth Day was yesterday I thought maybe I should post something up.  So here is a link to some tips to being more “Green.”  I feel like we can all do a little bit better at taking care of our planet.  I’m not the type that says go out and buy a Prius, put solar panels on your home, and start living off the grid.  I’m in no way an extreme “green” person….I drive an ’08 M3 that has a V8 and 414 horsepower, so obviously it doesn’t get 100mpg, but I do have all CFL lightbulbs in my home and hope to be upgrading to LED’s in a short time.  So my point is, try to do something this year to be a bit more green.  Let’s try and treat our Earth with a little more love, after all it is our home!

LOL!  But for now, I leave you with the visual loss I have experienced.  I am passionate about loosing weight, and also helping others in their journey.  I would love to have anyone that is loosing weight or wanting to lose weight to join my FaceBook page.  I want to see people succeed and achieve their goals.  So let’s team up and keep each other motivated!

Food for Thought…….or Waist

21 08 2012

ImageAs we push along in our daily lives, what direction are we going?  Are we going in the direction that a majority of the globe is going or are we headed down a better path?  Recently at a business conference there was a lot of talk about obesity and the direction that a majority of the population is headed.  Then came a word that I think sums it up perfectly “globesity!”  Meaning that it’s not just America that is in the obesity phase it is actually a global epidemic.  Here are some statistics that could really help in opening your mind and setting you on a path to health and wellness.

In 1980 the USA was in the low 40% range for overweight people, now we are at over 65% overweight.

Also in 1980 we were around 15% obese, and now we are around 35% of the US is obese.

But, it isn’t just America that is suffering the increases, although we are the most drastic.  Here are a few other stats that are what really worry me.

Our kids age 5-17 in America!  Our Boys are 35% overweight or obese and our Girls are 35.9%.  We are only second to Greece with our kids being overweight.

Also, 5-10% of the US overall health expenditures are due to obesity.  That number will continue to grow because of health problems created from obesity!!  If you are carrying 33 extra pounds around, that can raise your risk of early death by 30%!!

So what should we do about it?  Well, diet is the answer.  But it can’t just be any diet.  Why not you ask?  Because a lot of diets help you loose weight and once you are done you gain back what you lost or more.  Why is this?  What happens when you loose weight on most of these diets is that while you are loosing fat, you are also loosing muscle.  Muscle is like your bodies fat burning furnace.  If you loose that along with the fat, then when you start to gain weight again you don’t have the fire to help combat the gain.

I have started on the Shaklee Cinch program, and here are the reasons why I’ve done so, and the hesitation I had to begin with.

1. I had to be sold on the idea of a 2 shake weight loss program. (That was a tough one)  The shakes needed to provide enough for my body so that I wasn’t hungry all day.  Done!

2. I want to loose weight in inches and pounds (fat) but keep my muscle.  The research behind the Shaklee Cinch products is astounding.  And it has been shown to burn fat, and keep muscle.

3. Needed to be backed by solid research and a solid company.  Once again, Shaklee puts a lot of money into research and it shows.  Shaklee has been around for 56 years and they continue to bring high quality products to the consumers.

4. Once I was done with the program, I move to 1 shake (breakfast) and healthy foods to maintain my weight.  Easy peesy!  Once again I don’t really eat breakfast, so this will be easily done.

These were some thoughts I had before starting.  One of the most important thing for loosing weight and keeping it off is…..changing habits.  We need to start eating healthier foods!  That usually means cooking!

Enough of my thoughts on weight loss!  I hope you find this information helpful, and if you are interested in learning some more about Shaklee Cinch go here: madsen-associated.myshaklee.com

Dreams? Wants? What are yours?

20 08 2012

Everybody has dreams or wants in life, so the question I pose today is what are your dreams or wants?

Do you want time to party?

Do you want to help others?

Do you dream of a european vacation?

Do you dream of a nice new car?

What is it that motivates you in your life?  What is it that makes you want to be your best to try and achieve a new level in your life?  I know for me, travel is high up on the list.  In fact this year Shaklee has announced the Top Achievers Trip, and it is to Paris!  Do I want and dream of that trip…..YES I DO!  Not only is it a trip to Paris, but it includes something that I don’t think I’d ever be able to have without Shaklee.  One night, only the Top Achievers from Shaklee will be in the Louvre!  Can you imagine being in the Louvre with people that you know or have something in common with?  That will be EPIC!

So I challenge you all to find something that makes you dream or something that you want, and make that a motivation in your life.  It’s amazing what kind of power you can get from a want or dream.

If you want to join me in the dream of Paris, let’s get this party started and get you on a road to success, wealth, health, and freedom!  And if you aren’t quite ready for that step yet, follow my blog and maybe I can be a help to motivate you in whatever you are trying to achieve!  Carpe Diem!!

Lifestyle + Earth = ???

26 04 2012

The other day I posted that I was back in the saddle again, and then began writing this post.  But my internet went down and so did my post.  But here we go again!

While planning my Earth Day event, I came across some statistics that frankly blew my mind!  Before we get to those let me share a few of my thoughts about our lifestyles in this day and age.  We can take me for example and talk about what I like.  I love cars, and have had my fair share of them in the 18 years I’ve been able to drive.  The longest I have ever been able to manage to hold on to a car is 3 years.  The least is a year, but I go through them rather quickly.  They end up getting sold to somebody else, and I keep them in great condition but I change cars a lot!  That kind of attitude also shifts over into other aspects of our lives.  Take computers for example.  The technology changes quickly, and the computer you bought last year isn’t the top of the line anymore.  Can it do what you need it to do?  Most likely yes, but something in our way of thinking makes us want the new “cooler” more awesome machine.  Take the iPhone or iPad for example.  You might have one, but when the next one comes out are you going to want that one?  I know I will!  LOL!

But this brings me to my point.  We go through things quickly, and what happens to them after we are done with them?  Do we recycle them?  Do we sell them?  I would like everyone to think about a few things today as you go through your day.  Every time you throw something in the trash today, think about whether it needs to go in the garbage or if it should go in the recycle bin.  If we become a little more aware of what we are doing throughout the day, we might be able to make a change for good in the world.  Why would that matter?  Well here are the stats I mentioned earlier.

  • To produce each week’s Sunday newspapers, 500,000 trees must be cut down.
  • Recycling a single run of the Sunday New York Times would save 75,000 trees.
  • The amount of wood and paper we throw away each year is enough to heat 50,000,000 homes for 20 years.
  • Americans use 2,500,000 plastic bottles every hour! Most of them are thrown away!
  • Recycling plastic saves twice as much energy as burning it in an incinerator.
  • About one-third of an average dump is made up of packaging material!
  • Rainforests are being cut down at the rate of 100 acres per minute!
  • On average, each one of us produces 4.4 pounds of solid waste each day. This adds up to almost a ton of trash per person, per year.

These are just a few of the stats that I found while looking into my Earth Day Celebration.  So my point it this: Recycle what can be recycled, and try to minimize 4.4 pounds of waste each day!  The reason I feel so passionate about this, is because I have 3 kids.  I don’t want them to have to clean up our mess, or live like the humans do on Wall-E.  If you remember in the movie, the humans were flying around in a spaceship because earth was no longer able to sustain life.  Why?  Because of all of the garbage!  Let’s try and clean up our act, and make sure we are recycling what we can and if you want to go another step further, compost what you can too.  My 2 cents for the day!  Please comment and let me know what you think.

Let’s keep our mountains looking like this….

Back in the Saddle

24 04 2012

I have been on a vacation from the blog, due to having too many other projects going and business events to run.  But today starts the new series of thoughts and randomness from my crazy mind!  The Earth Day Celebration that I threw was a great success, and everyone seemed to have a really good time learning and playing!  In preparing for the celebration I came upon several very interesting and kind of scary facts.  I will share them with you in my next post.

Earth Day Weekend

17 04 2012

This weekend is Earth Day, and I would challenge all of us to take some time in our busy lives to enjoy what we have. Go and sit at the park, or go to the mountains, beach, or even just out the front door.  But take a moment to breathe and really take in the grandeur of this place we all call home.  The earth is something that is very interesting, and how everything works is fascinating.  It’s really amazing how we all enjoy different lives, but we are all interwoven in this time in the earth’s history.  Let’s enjoy what we have, and strive to make it better for our future generations.  Let’s find at least one thing we can do this year to “help” keep our earth healthy.

Happy early Earth Day to all of you!
